January update

Dear friends, I want update you on my project focusing some of great challenge I faced.
We was making a recommendation for the next AIDS Strategic Plan from Mozambique, and the National AIDS Council created a Civil Society Counsultting Group to contribuite for this document. We was not part of this group those they considers appropriate channel to send inputs for the document. So we had a risk to National AIDS Council do not receive our document.
To overcome this challenge we dicided to work in group, in order to the National AIDS Council see us as a network and not only a organisation or young people from one district.
So, we worked with National Youth Council, as well with their Provintial and Distrital branch.
We also invited the AIDS Council and they attended our sessions. A part of that we informed about our intentions for several goverment institutions as youth, health, education departmens, and we keeped informed the liasion officer from National AIDS Council.
So at the end, we got more credibility and we could send our recommendation for National AIDS Council and ohers departments, they received it. Hope now they will include in the finnal document.

I also want share with you participant biography from one young people involved in my project:
Assis Sebastião Tiago Liquidão, 15 years old, student, young activist from the governmental program Geração Biz, as well reporter of local radio, dealing with childrens programs.
He decided to attend the project about was really curious about the advocacy, and willing to learn how the young people can influence the decisions from the government. For him the first change in his life was realize that he already was working in advocacy in his radio program, but never called it advocacy activity. The second change is now is implement scientific methodology when are planning his advocacy messages for the radio program.
His life now are changed, because is planning to approach the youth problems in different way, for example now when is planning to talk with some government officer will first research enough information, as basic step to influence decisions. As well is thinking to use this knowledge even in personal life when talking with adults.
He belive this project is important in Moamba because give to local young people courage to talk open about own problems even with government departments, as well because give concretes skills to influence decisions.
